ABOUT TORNJAK

Due to the size of the breed, the first thing you would think is that the Tornjak is a dangerous and scary dog. However, when you come into contact with them, you will soon realize how gentle and loving they are. Loyalty, security and love are three sure characteristics that this breed can provide. Their existence and authenticity were questioned in the 1970s. The breed originally originated in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The fact that they were mainly sheep guardians and lived in a pen, which is where their name comes from, contributes to their strong protective character.

They are medium to large in appearance, their double coat protects them from the cold, and it is not uncommon to see them sleeping in the snow in the middle of winter. They are well protected from the cold and harsh weather conditions. They can vary in color, their basic color is white with black or brown markings. Their eyes are mostly chestnut brown, large and round. They have an exceptionally calm nature, but are always protective, which is especially evident in their relationship with children and the family they live in.

Tornjaks are ideal for people who have space, such as yards or farms. Since they are treated as working dogs, they love movement and freedom. With the right training and an adequate relationship with this breed, they become real family dogs.
